When you are driving through your neighborhood in Kansas City, you know to follow the speed limit, look out for children playing in front yards, and watch out for cars backing out of driveways. When you drive on the highways in our city, however, the hazards are much different. Speeding drivers, people who don't use turn signals when changing lanes and sudden backups in traffic can all create conditions that could lead to a serious car accident.
Last week, several cars collided on Interstate 435 in Kansas City. The crash happened Wednesday morning around 10:00. One victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Although it is not clear how this accident happened, this crash shows how dangerous highway crashes can be. Even if just two cars crash initially, others coming up from behind may have a hard time avoiding the collision, leading to a pileup of cars. These car accidents, however, can be avoided with vigilance and caution.
By driving at a safe speed for traffic conditions -- even if it is below the speed limit -- checking mirrors regularly, and always using a turn signal, drivers can help keep Kansas City highways accident-free. Unfortunately, althouth we can control our own driving, we cannot control how others choose to drive. As we have discussed before, if you end up involved in a car accident that was caused by a driver who was not driving safely, you may have grounds to flie a personal injury lawsuit.
