FedEx sued following fatal crash with charter bus

While we all value the convenience and speed of package delivery companies like FedEx, the services come at a price. Drivers for FedEx and other package delivery companies are often pressured to deliver as many packages in as short of time possible. What this results in are truck drivers who are often hurried, tired and sometimes negligent.

Unfortunately, accidents involving FedEx trucks are common in Missouri as well as the rest of the country. When these truck accidentsdo occur because of negligence and they are serious or deadly, victims are often able to pursue damages from the drivers and companies responsible. This includes accidents caused by improper loading of cargo, speeding or fatigue.

At this point, the cause of a fatal accident involving a FedEx truck and a charter bus in California last month has not been established, but several personal injury lawsuits have already been filed on behalf of the victims. On April 10, ten people were killed, including several high school students, when a FedEx truck crossed a grassy median and collided head-on with a charter bus heading in the opposite direction.

In one of the lawsuits against FedEx and other parties, the family of an 18-year-old student who was killed in the accident alleges that there were likely several factors that contributed to the accident, including possible defects with the FedEx truck and bus, and that “this suit will, for the first time, shed light on the actual operations of [the FedEx driver].”

The family of the 18-year-old said that the lawsuit isn’t about the damage award but instead about finding answers. “My family wants to know exactly what happened to that FedEx bus. If it wasn’t for that my brother would still be here,” the victim’s sister said. She added that her family wants to help prevent the same thing from happening to other families.
